In the beginning (in the end) VS at the beginning (at the end)

 In the beginning usually means initially. 

In the end usually means finally. 

«In the beginning» .

«In the beginning of the 1970s» ( В начале 70х)«In the beginning of the movie several fighting scenes took place» (В начале фильма происходят несколько сцен сражения).

• «In the beginning» равнозначно  «at first» и будет означать,что сначала это было так, а потом изменилось.

At the beginning and at the end are usually followed by an expression of time or space.
